Therapy & Mental Health Treatment Options

Compassionate, Personalized Mental Health Care

Finding the right kind of mental health support can feel overwhelming—especially when you aren't sure exactly what type of therapy you need.

At Authentically You Counseling, we offer a wide range of evidence-based and affirming mental health services designed around the individual rather than a one-size-fits-all treatment model.

You don't need to know which type of therapy is right for you before reaching out.

During your initial intake appointment, we'll learn more about what you're experiencing, what you'd like to change, if anything, and what you're hoping to get from therapy. From there, we'll help connect you with a clinician and treatment approach that fits your needs.

We provide counseling and mental health services through our Concord and Portsmouth, New Hampshire offices, with telehealth services also available for eligible clients in New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts.

We are currently accepting new clients. Call 603-429-1999 or contact us online to schedule an intake appointment.

Not Sure Where to Start?

That's completely okay.

Sometimes choosing therapy isn't about identifying the perfect treatment modality. You may simply know that you're struggling, feeling stuck, going through a difficult period, or ready to make a change.

Our intake process helps us understand what you're experiencing and determine which therapist, service, or combination of approaches may be most helpful.

Therapy can also evolve. Your therapist may incorporate several evidence-based approaches over time depending on your goals, preferences, and progress.

Individual Therapy

Individual Therapy provides one-on-one support for people navigating mental health concerns, relationship challenges, stress, major life changes, or personal growth.

Individual counseling creates a private and supportive environment where you can better understand yourself, develop coping strategies, work through difficult experiences, and create meaningful change.

Therapy for Anxiety, Depression, Trauma & Other Mental Health Concerns

Anxiety Therapy

Anxiety Therapy can help individuals experiencing excessive worry, panic, racing thoughts, physical anxiety symptoms, avoidance, chronic stress, and difficulty relaxing.

Treatment is personalized and may incorporate CBT, ACT, DBT, mindfulness, EMDR, nervous system regulation, and other therapeutic approaches.

Depression Therapy

Depression Therapy supports individuals experiencing persistent sadness, emotional numbness, hopelessness, loss of interest, low motivation, fatigue, and other symptoms of depression.

Therapy can help you better understand what may be contributing to depression while developing healthier coping strategies and reconnecting with meaning, relationships, and activities that matter to you.

Trauma Therapy

Trauma Therapy helps individuals process difficult experiences and understand how trauma may continue affecting emotions, relationships, behavior, and the nervous system.

Trauma doesn't have to involve one catastrophic event. Experiences that were minimized, repeated, overwhelming, or occurred during periods when you felt powerless or unsafe can also have lasting effects.

Trauma-Informed Therapy & PTSD Treatment

Trauma-Informed Therapy and PTSD Treatment provides compassionate care for people recovering from trauma, PTSD, complex trauma, childhood experiences, and other events that continue to affect their lives.

You do not need to have PTSD to benefit from trauma-informed therapy. Treatment emphasizes safety, collaboration, empowerment, nervous system regulation, and moving through the healing process at a pace that feels appropriate for you.

OCD Therapy

OCD Therapy provides specialized support for people experiencing intrusive thoughts, obsessive fears, compulsions, reassurance-seeking, checking, avoidance, or other symptoms of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.

Treatment may incorporate Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), CBT, ACT, mindfulness, and other evidence-based approaches.

Anger Management Therapy

Anger Management Therapy helps individuals understand anger triggers, improve emotional regulation, communicate more effectively, and develop healthier ways of responding to frustration and conflict.

The goal isn't to eliminate anger. It's to understand it and learn how to express and manage it in healthier ways.

Substance Use Counseling

Substance Use Counseling provides compassionate support for individuals navigating alcohol or substance use concerns and the emotional, behavioral, and relationship challenges that may accompany them.

Treatment is individualized and focused on helping clients improve well-being, strengthen coping skills, and work toward meaningful recovery goals.

Evidence-Based Therapy Approaches

Different people respond to therapy differently. Our clinicians draw from a variety of evidence-based and clinically informed approaches based on each client's goals and needs.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps clients understand the relationship between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.

CBT can help identify unhelpful thinking patterns while developing more balanced perspectives and practical coping strategies.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) focuses on emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness.

DBT can be particularly helpful for individuals who experience intense emotions or have difficulty navigating stressful situations and relationships.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) helps individuals change their relationship with difficult thoughts and emotions rather than constantly fighting against them.

ACT emphasizes psychological flexibility, mindfulness, personal values, and taking meaningful action toward the life you want to live.

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) combines mindfulness practices with principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

MBCT can help individuals recognize automatic thought patterns, reduce emotional reactivity, improve awareness, and respond to difficult thoughts and emotions more intentionally.

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) Therapy

ERP Therapy is an evidence-based treatment commonly used for OCD.

ERP gradually helps individuals face feared thoughts, situations, or sensations while reducing compulsive responses, helping weaken the cycle between obsessions, anxiety, and compulsions.

EMDR Therapy

EMDR Therapy is an evidence-based approach often used to help individuals process trauma and distressing memories.

EMDR may be incorporated into treatment for trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and other concerns when appropriate.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS) offers a compassionate way to understand the different "parts" of ourselves that may carry pain, fear, protective behaviors, or unresolved experiences.

IFS can help individuals develop greater self-awareness, curiosity, compassion, and emotional healing.

Self-Esteem Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Self-Esteem Cognitive Behavioral Therapy uses cognitive behavioral strategies to address negative self-perception, self-criticism, limiting beliefs, and patterns that may interfere with confidence and self-worth.

Nervous System, Trauma & Mind-Body Approaches

Nervous System Regulation Therapy

Nervous System Regulation Therapy helps individuals better understand how chronic stress, anxiety, trauma, and emotional overwhelm can affect the autonomic nervous system.

Therapy can help clients recognize fight, flight, freeze, or shutdown responses and develop practical strategies that support greater emotional regulation, flexibility, and resilience.

Polyvagal Theory-Informed Therapy

Polyvagal Theory-Informed Therapy provides a framework for understanding how the nervous system responds to safety, connection, stress, and perceived danger.

This approach can be particularly helpful when working with anxiety, trauma, chronic stress, emotional regulation, and nervous system activation.

Polyvagal Theory-informed work is offered through our Portsmouth office.

Chronic Pain & Pain Reprocessing Therapy

Chronic Pain Therapy

Chronic Pain Therapy supports individuals living with persistent pain and addresses the emotional, psychological, and nervous system factors that can influence the experience of pain.

Treatment may incorporate CBT, ACT, mindfulness, nervous system regulation, and Pain Reprocessing Therapy.

Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT)

Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) is an evidence-based approach for certain forms of chronic or neuroplastic pain.

All pain is real, but not all persistent pain is caused by ongoing tissue damage. In some cases, an overprotective brain and nervous system continue interpreting safe sensations as dangerous.

PRT helps clients better understand these processes while developing strategies designed to change the brain's response to pain signals.

Couples & Family Therapy

Couples Counseling

Couples Counseling provides a supportive environment where partners can improve communication, work through conflict, strengthen emotional connection, and better understand one another.

Couples don't need to wait until a relationship is in crisis to seek counseling. Therapy can also be used proactively to strengthen a healthy relationship.

Family Therapy

Family Therapy helps families strengthen relationships, improve communication, navigate conflict, and work through challenging circumstances together.

Family therapy may be helpful when navigating parenting concerns, behavioral challenges, mental health conditions, major life transitions, divorce or separation, grief, or changing family dynamics.

Affirming & Inclusive Therapy

LGBTQIA+ Affirming Therapy

LGBTQIA+ Affirming Therapy provides compassionate, evidence-based mental health care within an affirming and unconditionally accepting therapeutic environment.

Clients may seek support specifically related to LGBTQIA+ experiences, or they may simply want an affirming therapist while addressing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationships, stress, or other concerns.

Transgender-Affirmative Therapy

Transgender-Affirmative Therapy provides affirming mental health care that recognizes and respects each person's gender identity, gender expression, autonomy, and lived experience.

Our goal is to provide a therapeutic environment where clients feel accepted, respected, and supported as their authentic selves.

Neurodivergent-Affirming Therapy

Neurodivergent-Affirming Therapy recognizes neurological differences as part of human diversity rather than something that needs to be "fixed."

Our clinicians work collaboratively with neurodivergent clients to understand their experiences, strengths, needs, communication styles, challenges, and individual goals.

Medication Management

Psychiatric Medication Management

Medication Management is available for adults ages 18 and older through Alicia Pride, APRN.

Alicia works collaboratively with clients who are considering psychiatric medication, currently taking medication, looking to make adjustments, or exploring whether reducing medication may be appropriate.

Medication management may support treatment for anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, bipolar disorder, mood disorders, stress-related conditions, and other mental health concerns.

Medication is one treatment option among many and may be combined with therapy as part of a comprehensive mental health treatment plan.

Online Medication Management

Online medication management is available to eligible adults in New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts.

Telehealth Therapy

Telehealth Therapy provides convenient access to counseling through secure virtual appointments.

Telehealth can make therapy easier to fit into busy schedules while eliminating travel time and expanding access to specialized therapists.

Which Type of Therapy Is Right for Me?

You aren't expected to determine that on your own.

Some people arrive knowing exactly what they're looking for—perhaps EMDR for trauma, ERP for OCD, CBT for anxiety, or medication management.

Others simply know that something isn't working and they want help.

During your initial intake appointment, we'll learn more about what you're experiencing, answer your questions, and help identify a clinician and therapeutic approach that may be a good fit.

Your treatment plan may also incorporate more than one therapeutic approach as your needs and goals evolve.
